A SHORT BIOGRAPHY OF LYNNE
WHITSEL
Lynne Whitsel has resided in
Churchville, Bucks County,
Pennsylvania for almost fifty years.
She has always been interested in
art and has volunteered her artistic
talents to her community, school
and church while still raising a
beautiful family along the way. She
later studied art at Bucks County
Community College where she
earned an Associate Degree in Fine
Art and went on to the Tyler School
of Art where she graduated with a
Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree,
President’s Scholar, specializing in
graphic design.
For the next ten years she ran her
own successful business designing
and illustrating brochures, catalogs,
ads, signs and greeting cards.
Eventually, the computer revolution
changed the face of graphic design.
Time in front of the computer kept
increasing and she soon found
herself dealing with technology
more than with the satisfying act of
drawing. She left the field to pursue
the fine art of pastel painting.
Working in the realist tradition, her
subject matter includes portraits,
still life, animals and landscape.
When working on landscapes, she
especially enjoys working en plein
air because of the spontaneity that
occurs when working quickly.
She took a workshop in oil pastel
and has explored this medium with
great success. Rotating between soft
pastel and oil pastel provides a
change of pace.
As a member of the Doylestown Art
League, The Oil Pastel Society and
The Ivyland Art Group, she has had
three solo exhibitions, participated
in many art shows and won silver
awards in several shows. Both her
soft pastel and oil pastel paintings
are included in many private
collections.
